ABOUT MY PRESENTATION at CC SUMMIT 2019!
Title: Creating Big Open in Bangladesh: Stereotypes, Commitments and Actions

Abstract:
Although the public universities are highly subsidised by the government, education at tertiary level in Bangladesh is highly expensive in general whenever the students go for using copyrighted study resources. Since almost all the textbooks referred by the teachers are of foreign origin, the spending for the original books becomes unbearable for the students. Every year a huge amount of public fund is spent on creating local textbooks, purchasing the foreign books and journals; however, most of them are copyrighted. Spending on copyrighted study resources limits the access to study resources and makes the use of pubic fund inefficient. Given these realities, promoting the creation and use of open resources can create a positive shift in the access to educational resources. This proposal summarizes the experiences from the recent initiatives for creating Big Open in Bangladesh.

Highlights:
 The status of open educational practices in Bangladesh
 Scope for creating and adopting OER (under CC Licenses) in secondary and higher education programs in Bangladesh
 The role of open policies in promoting the open culture in Bangladesh
 The commitments and actions for strengthening open movement in Bangladesh.
