Andrew Malcolm

Communications Specialist
Kitchener, Canada Area
I'm a writer, photographer and graphic designer with over ten years of experience in the field of communications. Most recently I completed a number of communications projects for Ignite Insurance. I wrote a broad range of material that will be used in the official launch of the company, including LinkedIn posts, website content, profiles, and FAQ copy for their chat-bot.

From January 2009 to February 2015 I worked as the communications, events and alumni coordinator for the University of Toronto’s Department of Geography and Planning. For this position I published two newsletters, organized departmental events, and led special projects such as the redesign of the website and the 75th Anniversary Celebrations. I coordinated volunteer contributions to departmental publications and volunteer-help with events, developed ongoing relationships with other departments and external vendors, and formed positive working relationships with professors, co-workers, and anyone that had questions or last minute problems they needed a hand with.

In 2016 I completed an Assignment Editor Internship for Photographers Without Borders' news blog and magazine. For this position I managed the news blog and developed strategies to expand its reach. I also approved story-pitches from the journalists, edited their work, and provided feedback that helped improve their contributions and make the experience more valuable to them.

From 2007 to 2008 I was a freelance writer and photographer, publishing works in print and online publications about palaeontology, silviculture, urban development in small cities, and paddling. I also volunteered for many organizations during this time, establishing my event planning and graphic design experience. Throughout my career I've engaged in independent publishing projects, including a novel and graphic-animation published in 2015, and a current series of fiction, non-fiction and photography that I'm publishing as a blog.
